Peter BG ShoemakerCo-Founder and Senior Partner
Helping companies prepare for the future, anticipate new opportunities, and take advantage of both have been hallmarks of Peter’s career, and he brings them to Pinyon’s government, nonprofit, and industry clients.
A veteran business leader, new enterprise innovator, and futurist, Peter began his career in consulting with a leading global strategy firm on knowledge management, customer experience, and strategic opportunity discovery. While there, in addition to new product development, he worked with an Indian multinational on new market orientation and the British House of Lords on electronic commerce legislation. Shortly thereafter, he founded Contextus Associates, a digital strategy and commercial experience firm with offices in Cambridge, MA and Eastern Europe. With an appreciation for the nuances of emerging markets, Peter led the firm in completing the first Internet joint venture in Romania and the successful negotiation of domestic and international consulting services alliances with AT&T and Prodigy Internet.
In the mid-1990s, Peter served as special legislative liaison with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the drafting of commerce and privacy legislation, and led the development of the first large-scale civic education project on the Internet. He was recruited in 1998 by Harcourt (formerly Harcourt Brace) to lead the integration of the company’s 21 international divisions into a single customer-facing unit, and later went on to head the business development and strategy group. In 2000, Peter accepted a newly created position as business unit head at a west coast mid-market B2B media company, where he drove the innovation of new suites of products and services, and significantly increased revenue, client loyalty, and market penetration.
Most recently, Peter served as chief operating officer at a boutique branding consultancy, where he was responsible for strategic planning, innovation, and business operations. While there, he worked closely with the firm’s clients on understanding and leveraging environmental, technological, social, and demographic change.
Peter, a former US Marine rifle platoon leader, holds graduate degrees from universities in the US and UK. He currently serves as a senior adviser to Visual Impact Analytics LLC, as Managing Director for RPD Analytics, LLC, and as an adviser to the global democracy initiative e-Parliament. Peter continues to serve or has served on the strategic planning committees of two publicly-traded companies, and has been an active board member and consulting executive for half a dozen privately held firms. He is a member of the Association of Professional Futurists.
