Dan Garretson is a Co-Founder and Senior Partner at Pinyon Partners LLC, a strategic foresight research firm, where he helps the firm’s clients better understand and take advantage of change. Dan, an expert in the evolution of new technologies and the associated policy implications and best practices for managing innovation, has spent more than 15 years advising senior executives and policy makers on emerging business opportunities and best practices for anticipating and managing change. In addition, Dan has provided extensive input to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the US Department of Transportation on issues that include the evolution of transportation systems and technologies, the future of space launch capabilities, and the implications of emerging energy technologies.

Prior to founding Pinyon Partners, Dan led the Research & Technology Executive Council (RTEC) of the Corporate Executive Board (CEB), a firm providing best practices research and executive training to a membership consisting of CTO’s and heads of research, development, and engineering at the world’s leading corporations. In this role, Dan led research on managing breakthrough innovation and talent management in a technical workforce and developed training materials for communicating research results through executive workshops and staff development seminars.

Before joining CEB, Dan directed all aeronautics, space, and physical science related activities for the Science and Technology Policy Institute, a Federally-Funded Research and Development Center that provides in-depth analyses of science and technical policy issues for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. In addition, Dan has extensive research and consulting experience with Forrester Research, Digitas, and McKinsey & Co. where he focused, in particular, on the use of Internet-based technologies in the areas of automotive manufacturing and telematics, supply chain management, procurement, logistics, and customer relationship management. Dan holds a Ph.D. and A.M. in Astronomy from Harvard University and a B.S. in Physics from the California Institute of Technology and is a member of SAE International.
